Self-Compassion: An Antidote to Shame (lecture and guided exercise from Christopher Germer, Ph.D.)

Manny Vallarino · May 12, 2024 ·

I came across this video on healing shame through self-compassion, and it has been serendipitously transformative.

I’ve dealt with anxiety, rumination, and lots of other fun stuff for a long time, and it hadn’t occurred to me that all those things might just be symptoms (at least in part) of “trait shame” internalized during a complicated childhood, and it certainly hadn’t occurred to me that I could release those things (at least in part) by applying self-compassion in the way Dr. Germer guides us to do so in this video.

If you have an internal struggle of any kind, I highly recommend you watch the lecture at the beginning of the video and then do the guided exercise at the end of it.

Enjoy, and I hope it helps you as it did for me.

Thank you, Dr. Germer!
